Palma, June 2012 ( delayed due to a nasty attack of photo editing induced Tendonitis) - Aidan Williamson

It was Majorca for our summer hols this year (for the first time in 5 years) but unfortunately we were staying in Camp De Mar (near Andratix) rather than our normal base of Ca’n Pastilla so I only managed a couple of dedicated spotting days. For those who “SBS by the pool” Camp de Mar is quite a good location as most of the traffic passes almost overhead on arrival or departure, (depending on wind direction) but is too high to read off with binoculars.

Due to the consolidation of the industry over the last few years there was much less variety in the aircraft seen, and at times (in an afternoon particularly) you might have thought you were at a major German airport due to the amount of German traffic (notably Air Berlin as Palma is their biggest hub), But in amongst the mass of UK & German operators there were still a few more interesting arrivals. I know I missed a Transaero B747 & ( I am told) a S7 (Sibir) IL96 due to not being based near the airport .

I haven’t produced a written log as most of the movements are pretty mundane, but the “highlights” on Saturday 16/6/12 were :

A7-MBK A320 323CJ Qatar Amiri flight ( in Biz park- no photo!)
EC-LNQ Helitt Air ATR72
G-OBYG Thomson B767-304 in the new livery
OE-IVA Falcon 7X
RA-64509 Tu214 Transaero
& various other Biz.

While awaiting our flight home on 23/6/12 a few interesting frames were noted:

LZ-VAR EMB 190 Bulgaria Air
OE-ICE A318CJ
A flurry of Malmo Aviation BAe 146s including SE-DSU in a special scheme
T-19B-12 CASA CN235
10-3086 (carrying 03068) Dornier 328-100 USAF
